About Tim Jeltema | Luminessence Photography
My artistic mission is simple: to create images
that invite people to slow down, look deeper, and rediscover the quiet wonder
that’s easy to miss in our fast world. Whether I’m framing the intricate
patterns of a Michigan forest, the clean lines of a well-built boat, or the
play of light across an old stone ruin, I want the photograph to carry the same
feeling I had when I stood there — that moment of connection.
I still shoot the way I first learned:
deliberately, with a tech camera and manual lenses that force me to think and
feel before I press the shutter. It’s the same lesson I absorbed as a boy
poring over boat-show brochures at my parents’ cottage on a small lake. I
memorized every hull line, every play of light and shadow, long before I ever
picked up a camera. Those brochures taught me to see proportion and beauty.
Later, studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering taught me precision —
drawing by hand, understanding how form and function meet. Photography became
the natural extension of both.
Today I work with the very best medium-format
equipment available: a Hasselblad X2D as well as the Hasselblad digital back
paired with a Cambo WRS 5500 technical camera and Rodenstock lenses. I also
keep a Canon R5 for those rare fast-moving moments. The process is more
intentional — like driving a car with a manual transmission instead of an
automatic. Every focus, every aperture, every composition demands presence.
That’s how the images stay exceptionally clean and precise, rendered so the
emotion comes through first.
When I print, I use my Canon 44-inch archival
inkjet for every local sale and the highest-quality fulfillment for online
orders. Every print is an heirloom — rich yet subtle color palettes, soft
directional natural light, and strong compositional depth that feels like it
belongs on your wall for decades. Whether you’re in West Michigan looking for a
piece that brings calm nostalgia into your home, or an online collector seeking
timeless beauty that moves you every day, these photographs are made to live
with you.
For me, creating art is about sharing an
experience, a feeling, or just a moment in time. I hope each print gives you
permission to pause, breathe, and find your own meaning in the details.
Thank you for being here. I’d be honored to
help you find — or commission — the piece that speaks to you.
